The proposed office tower for a new development in the north of the ancient capital city of Xi An responds to the requirements of natural light. As opposed to a generic tower block, four 15m-17m wide fins extend out from the vertical core allowing the internal office spaces to receive sufficient daylight. The fins of the tower twist from the ground floor to the top levels creating a dynamic flow as one approaches the building from the adjacent highway and high-speed rail tracks that connect to Beijing and Shanghai. The tower floorplan consists of a regular core while the fins rotate slightly forming an office layout that allows for either one to four companies to occupy one level. Situated on a prominent corner location, the bottom three floors function as the main atrium of the building while also containing retail and recreation facilities for the public and office staff.
